โข Two bestsellers by British author Bertrand Russell are in this Kindle The Problems of Philosophy (1912) & The Analysis of Mind (1921)
The Problems of Philosophy (1912)
Russell's attempt to create an accessible guide to the problems of philosophy, which focuses on problems he believes will provoke constructive discussion. He concentrates on knowledge and guides readers through his 1910 distinction between "knowledge by acquaintance and knowledge by description". He also discusses important theories of Plato, Aristotle, Renรฉ Descartes, David Hume, John Locke, Immanuel Kant, G. W. F. Hegel and others.
In Russell's own โI have confined myself in the main to those problems of philosophy in regard to which I thought it possible to say something positive and constructive, since merely negative criticism seemed out of place. For this reason, theory of knowledge occupies a larger space than metaphysics ... and some topics much discussed by philosophers are treated very briefly, if at all."
The Analysis of Mind (1921)
Joseph Conrad called it "a delightful experience" while the New Statesman labelled it "a most brilliant essay in psychology." The Analysis of Mind is among Russel's most influential books, establishing a new concept of the mind and an exciting account of knowledge. He leans on the work of psychologists such as William James and John Watson and examines belief, desire, habit, memory, meaning, and causal law. The book is among the most important works on the philosophy of the mind, reconciling the materialism of psychology with the anti-materialism of physics.
